John & Margaret McNatt Scholarship Fund Application Forms

Grants for one academic year are not to exceed $2,500.00.

Please complete each of the four easy steps below through our secure on-line site.  You will receive a confirmation email after completing each part. It is your responsibility to ensure your application is 100% complete. Incomplete applications will not be considered.   Be sure to scroll to the bottom of the page for important guidelines!

Step 3. John & Margaret McNatt Scholarship Part III - Please note that this is a three part step:
  1. Include Goal Statement of 700 words or less, 
  2. Upload or mail Official Transcript &
  3. Recommendation Letter from SUMC church member.  References may either upload your letter at the link, email letters to scholarship@southsidemethodist.org, or mail them to the church office to Attn: Scholarship Committee, 3120 Hendricks Avenue, Jacksonville, FL 32207. 

Step 4. Financial Questionnaire for McNatt Scholarship Part IV - Please email j.dickson@southsidemethodist.org with the following information:

  • Name of student applying for Scholarship.
  • What is the adjusted gross income for the family?
  • How many family members are supported by this income?
  • What was the amount of income the student earned in salary, tips, or dividends over the past 12 months.

    Guidelines for Awarding the John and Margaret McNatt Scholarship


    1. The awards will be paid from the earnings of the invested principal.

    2. The number of awards will be determined by the amount of the funds available and the committee's judgment as to the best use of these funds.

    3. Scholarships are renewable on a year-by-year basis and contingent upon the recipient's compliance with the stated guidelines.

    4. The need of the applicant will be considered using some or all of the following criteria:

    a. The Financial Aid Questionnaire (U.S. Department of Education) will be filled out by the applicant or the applicant's family and reviewed only by the Financial Administrator of the church. This booklet may be obtained from any campus of Florida Community College or University of North Florida. The Financial Administrator will provide the Scholarship Committee with the relative need according to a 5 point scale. For the year 2008, applicants may use page 2
    of the application. The entire questionnaire booklet is NOT required.

    b. The applicant's qualifying for Guaranteed Student Loans will be
    viewed as an indicator of need.

    c. The Scholarship Committee will factor in family size in determining
    need.

    d. The Scholarship Committee will accept requests for special consideration due to an extenuating financial situation.

    5. The following criteria will be considered in selecting scholarship recipients:

    a. The applicant must be eligible for acceptance into an accredited school, college or university program offering a degree or certification in the student's field of study.

    b. Favorable consideration will be given to high school students with a
    GPA of 3.3 and to college students with a GPA of 3.0.

    c. Favorable consideration will be given to active members of Southside United Methodist Church.

    d. The applicant must submit a completed application form, a written goal statement, and a written recommendation from a non-relative who is a member of Southside United Methodist Church.

    e. The applicant must demonstrate evidence of commitment to personal
    spiritual growth and to community service.
