The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 pm Thursday, July 30 at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 4115 Hendricks Ave., Jacksonville. A service celebrating Rick's life will be held Friday, July 31 at 10am at Southside United Methodist Church, 3120 Hendricks Ave. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Gate 5. Arrangements by Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 4115 Hendricks Ave., Jacksonvile, FL.
Obituary
Richard Eugene Monk Richard Eugene Monk passed away on July 27, 2009. Rick was born in Ft. Worth Tx. and moved to Jacksonville in 1956. He has been a life long resident of Jacksonville since that time. He graduated from Sandelwood High School in 1972 and acquired an Associate of Arts degree from Florida Community College Jacksonville. Rick managed and eventually owned Monk's Hardware Co. on North Main St. He was very proud to be part of his family's business. During this time he was an active member of the Northside Business Men's Association. Rick was also a member and worshiped at Southside United Methodist Church. He had the privilege of serving on the Board of Trustees, teaching Sunday School and was often involved in his children's youth activities. Rick enjoyed many things in life including playing golf, and riding his beloved Harley. However, above all, spending time with his family was where he got his greatest joy. Rick is survived by his wife Karen of 20 years; his son, Richard Hardiman, his daughters Emily Barton and Amanda Clark, his parents, Marcus (Gene) and Rose Monk, his sisters Pamela Monk Taylor (Roger, deceased) and Cindy Monk Candamio (Frank); his parent in'laws Kenneth and Carolyn Boatright and his brother and sister-in-law Kenneth Mark Boatright, Sr. (Cindi) all of Lake City, FL. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins , aunts and uncles as well a host of other friends and relatives.
