The walled garden on the San Jose side of the Sanctuary is one of Southside's loveliest treasures.  Enclosed on three sides by the Langley Chapel's chancel window and by gated brick walls, it is open to full view along the inside covered breeze way.  The garden was constructed in1955 to be an outdoor sanctuary, a place of prayer, meditation, and remembrance.  In 1999, it was officially named The Memorial Garden to designate that it was set aside in memory of deceased members whose plaques may be displayed on the breeze way wall and whose cremains may be interred on the church grounds. Several years ago, the garden took on new life as one of our youth adopted an area as his Eagle Scout project.  The Butterfly Garden he created was not only beautiful for a season, it also inspired our gardeners to redesign, replant, and refurnish the entire landscape. The Memorial Garden, the Peace Pole Garden, and many walk way areas around the campus have been made into Memorial Gardens which are lovingly attended by faithful volunteers.

The next time you walk along the covered west wall take notice of the memorial plaques.  There are currently fifty plaques in place and many others reserved for loved ones.  Any church member may enter into a contract with the church for a memorial plaque for herself, himself, or for family members who may or may not be interred on the grounds.  The legal paper work is in the main office with complete explanation of costs and regulations.
